The Medshield Board of Trustees, appointed by the members of the Scheme, direct the affairs of the Scheme on behalf of the members in accordance with the Medical Schemes Act of 1998 and the Scheme Rules. The Board of Trustees comprise seven members of which four are member elected and three are appointed by the member-elected Trustees as co-opted. The co-opted Trustees are appointed for specific skills as required by the Scheme Rules.
